A minimal spring capsule wardrobe

I’m all for cosying up in the winter but I’m so ready for change.

Every morning, when I step outside the house I find myself mumbling my desire for Spring. This isn’t like me. I’m a winter person through and through. I thrive on dark cosy nights and legitimate excuses to embrace my natural hermit tendencies. Still, this has been the wettest of winters and I’m ready to see the back of it. Hello florals, hello bare skin, hello less frustration over all the clothes I’m wearing.

Spring is a difficult season in terms of clothes. Even more so when you live in a part of the world that adores the wind and rain. I find spring unpredictable and yet another reason why I love to keep a year round capsule wardrobe as opposed to packing lots of clothes away. I deal with this unpredictability through versatility. Owning a wardrobe with fewer colours makes layering and outfit curation a breeze because everything goes.

I’ve already done my spring capsule wardrobe audit which you can catch up with on YouTube if you haven’t seen it already. There weren’t too many changes. The biggest shift I’ve noticed is my decreased desire for the colour black. More and more I’m enjoying wearing lighter colours. This audit saw me say au revoir to a pair of black flats I’ve hardly worn and start a trial period without a black pair of trousers and my black jumpsuit.

Following my seasonal audit I’ve added three new pieces for spring as part of my seasonal shopping window. I’ve been lusting after a frilly blouse for ages and finally found the right one. I’ve returned to beloved pointed flats in a lighter nude colour to add a few more inches onto my height. Finally I’ve welcomed a blush jumpsuit to add a little more neutral and lighten the mood for spring.

Here’s what I’m expecting to wear the most this season. Some links are affiliate (*) and some items were gifted or part of a previous paid collaboration. These are all clearly marked. A lot of these items are old now and or sold out, so I’ve linked to similar where possible.

Long sleeve stripe tee *(similar) – still as versatile as the day I bought it, this is a firm favourite for all seasons

Grey coat (similar) – Lighter than my heavy winter coat I’m ready to carry a little less weight on my shoulders as the weather (hopefully) warms up soon.

Skinny jeans* – I tried living without these over the winter and I couldn’t. I was reaching for them within a few weeks. Proof you should only purge when you’re 100% ready.

Long sleeve plain tee (gifted) – I’ve been so impressed with the quality of this tee and I love how well it goes with everything else in my wardrobe

Grey sweater (gifted) – Finally a lighter sweater. Here’s to being able to breathe again!

Grey cardigan (gifted) – I like wearing this open in the spring. I’ll usually pair it with a dress or jumpsuit.

Jumpsuit (gifted) – a lighter version of my black one, I’m looking forward to wearing this on repeat for cosy working from home days.

Blouse – a new addition I can’t wait to wear under my jumpsuit and with my jeans.

Sleeveless dress (gifted) – I thought I might wear this over the winter with sweaters but I haven’t reached for it once. It’s best suited to bare arms and legs and I’m counting down the days until that’s a reality.

Long sleeve dress – This will transition into spring really nicely. I’m still wearing it with tights and boots for now but I’m looking forward to wearing it with trainers and nude flats.

Pinafore (gifted) – will I be able to wear this without tights some day soon? Oh I hope so.

Light coat (gifted) – April showers. Need I say more. I love how flattering the cut of these coats are and I love how sustainable the brand is.

Straight jeans – I’ve worn these on repeat since buying them for my winter wardrobe and I see no change in behaviour on the horizon.

Grey cardigan (similar) – Snuggles will still be required this season and I love how this adds instant warmth to any outfit.

Cross body bag – celebrating five years together with this bag and I still love it as much as the day it arrived. I’ll turn to this for evenings out days when I don’t have much to take with me.

Backpack *(similar) – I still can’t believe I contemplated a back pack for so long. I wish I’d got this years ago. My shoulders are so grateful for it.

Welly boots* (gifted) – I love wearing these on rainy days. I think it was a really clever move to create a classic shape in a waterproof welly.

Brogues – I’ve worn these a lot throughout the winter and I’m nowhere near bored of them. They go with everything and always look smart.

Flats – A new addition and I can’t wait to wear them. Nude points really do make us look taller.

Trainers – I’ve been super impressed with the durability of these trainers. They’re going to go as well with dresses as they have with jeans and trousers.

What are you looking forward to wearing this spring?
