Paris is my favourite city in the world and I like to go as often as possible – mainly to stalk Parisian women for style tips. Packing for Paris is always a little bit more exciting because I already know exactly what we’ll be doing when we get there. When I’m picking out what to take, I can hold onto visions of sitting outside cafes (people watching), wandering the streets of Le Marais with my camera and staying out until my feet won’t carry me any longer.

The thought of what to pack for Paris in winter could easily send you into a panic because of how unpredictable the weather is, but there’s really no need to take more than a carry on. This little lot lasted me 3 nights and 4 full days with ease. despite the torrential rain on 3 out of 4 days.

Paris might be known for its fashion and impeccable style but comfort comes first, even for the locals and I have no interest in packing for a street style fashion show. I’ve made so many packing mistakes in the past and all of them were due to a lack of practical thinking. I can’t think of anything worse than trying to explore somewhere exciting like Paris in uncomfortable shoes and clothes that don’t keep you warm.

With comfort and my Parisian style heroes in mind, here’s my carry on packing list….

I’ve included all the links to the items in the collage below, for inspiration. A lot of the items from my capsule wardrobe have been discontinued or sold out now (the beauty of a capsule wardrobe is you don’t have to keep buying new clothes every season), so I’ve replaced them with up to date versions I’d try now.

Long sleeve stripe tee | Cashmere sweater | Roll neck cashmere sweater (sold out) – similar

Black skinny jeans | White silk shirt | My black dress is now sold out – try this black dress

My grey coat has now been discontinued – try this grey wool coat | Grey scarf | Black cross body bag

Ballerina flats | Chelsea boots | Shopper bag

This packing list would work for any winter city break but seen as my style is heavily influenced by what I’ve ingested every time I’ve been to Paris, it’s particularly geared towards it.

CARRY ON EXTRAS

Tech
Headphones (the best way to eliminate airport anxieties)
DSLR Camera and charger
Phone charger with continent adaptor

Hair and Beauty
Mascara, liquid eye liner, brow gel, lip balm
Travel size toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, solid deodorant
Comb
Cleanser, serum and spf

Other Clothing
4 x pants
1 x strapless bra
3 x cosy socks
1 x tights
Gloves

Personal Essentials
A good book
Notebook and pen
Sunglasses

It absolutely poured it down when we were there and I really should have taken an umbrella – luckily the hotel had plenty on hand for us to borrow.

This is EVERYTHING I took with me on this trip including what I wore to the airport. Really hope this inspires you to pack a little lighter in future and gives you some ideas of what to take with you on your next city break. Any questions, just let me know in the comments below – I always reply.

What are your city break essentials?

If you enjoyed this post I think you’ll get value from these too…

  1. Hi Jessica
I would love to know what you do when your in Paris, the last time I went was in 2012 and I really didn’t feel like I made the most of it, or found the right places for me to visit
    Would love some tips!
P.s do you layer over your shirt/dress with the polo?
