The hours I spent thinking about what I should or shouldn’t take away with me pre-capsule wardrobe don’t bear thinking about, not to mention all the laundry I used to be slave to when I got home. A complete waste of time and genuinely unnecessary. I’ve been strictly carry on suitcase only for a year now and I’d never go back. I wanted to share what I packed from my minimal capsule wardrobe for the entire year for my trip to Copenhagen this weekend, so you can see how it works in practice.
Packing for a city break can be tough. You’re never 100% sure about the weather and it’s likely you’ll be out exploring a lot of the time. I make sure I take practical items for walking around in and I don’t feel the need to worry too much about what I’m going to wear nowadays. This is where my love of capsule wardrobes comes in. All that time and effort I spent creating pays off when travelling because the items compliment one another. If you look at the collage, you’ll notice this. I can piece at least 9 different outfits together with just these few items. That’s plenty for 4 nights away.
I’ve attached the links to the items (or similar) for you but they aren’t affiliate so I don’t get paid if you buy anything. I’m not telling you to buy these items, I simply want to share what works for me in the hope it may inspire you to travel lighter so you can spend more of your time and money on what really matters; the experience.
Extras that aren’t photographed
- Enough underwear to last 4 nights
- A pair of yoga pants and a cami for relaxing at the hotel
- Camera and charger
- Laptop and charger
- Flannels (just because I like my own)
- Notebook and pen
- Mascara, liquid eye liner, brow gel, lip balm
- Travel size toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, deodorant, hair brush and comb
We overpack just in case. We worry that we might need those extra five t-shirts. What if I spill my dinner? What if a lorry hurtles past and splashes a dirty puddle all over me? We plan for situations that haven’t even happened and in doing so we make our lives harder than they have to be. I managed just fine for 4 nights with these items and the laundry was a breeze when I got home!
I’m thinking of making packing lists a regular feature, so I’d love to know if you found this post useful. I’d also love to know what your city break essentials are. If you want, you can comment below or you can email me via the contact page if that works better for you.
If you enjoyed this post I think you’ll enjoy these too…
