A Carry-On Only Packing List For A Weekend In Copenhagen

Capsule Wardrobe Packing List - Jessica Rose Williams

The hours I spent thinking about what I should or shouldn’t take away with me pre-capsule wardrobe don’t bear thinking about, not to mention all the laundry I used to be slave to when I got home. A complete waste of time and genuinely unnecessary. I’ve been strictly carry on suitcase only for a year now and I’d never go back. I wanted to share what I packed from my minimal capsule wardrobe for the entire year for my trip to Copenhagen this weekend, so you can see how it works in practice.

Packing for a city break can be tough. You’re never 100% sure about the weather and it’s likely you’ll be out exploring a lot of the time. I make sure I take practical items for walking around in and I don’t feel the need to worry too much about what I’m going to wear nowadays. This is where my love of capsule wardrobes comes in. All that time and effort I spent creating pays off when travelling because the items compliment one another. If you look at the collage, you’ll notice this. I can piece at least 9 different outfits together with just these few items. That’s plenty for 4 nights away.

Black Skinny Jeans | Black Trousers | Stripe Dress

Grey Sweatshirt | Faux Leather Jacket | Cross Body Bag

Black Flats | Black Espadrilles | Black Shopper

I’ve attached the links to the items (or similar) for you but they aren’t affiliate so I don’t get paid if you buy anything. I’m not telling you to buy these items, I simply want to share what works for me in the hope it may inspire you to travel lighter so you can spend more of your time and money on what really matters; the experience.

Extras that aren’t photographed

  • Enough underwear to last 4 nights
  • A pair of yoga pants and a cami for relaxing at the hotel
  • Headphones
  • Camera and charger
  • Laptop and charger
  • Flannels (just because I like my own)
  • Notebook and pen
  • Book
  • Sunglasses
  • Mascara, liquid eye liner, brow gel, lip balm
  • Fragrance
  • Travel size toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, deodorant, hair brush and comb

We overpack just in case. We worry that we might need those extra five t-shirts. What if I spill my dinner? What if a lorry hurtles past and splashes a dirty puddle all over me? We plan for situations that haven’t even happened and in doing so we make our lives harder than they have to be. I managed just fine for 4 nights with these items and the laundry was a breeze when I got home!

I’m thinking of making packing lists a regular feature, so I’d love to know if you found this post useful. I’d also love to know what your city break essentials are. If you want, you can comment below or you can email me via the contact page if that works better for you.

If you enjoyed this post I think you’ll enjoy these too…

  1. I’m very nosy about things like this, so thanks for sharing! I’m still on my minimalising journey but am definitely enjoying a new- found packing freedom & am carry on only as much as possible. Recently I’ve been on a couple of longer trips (3-4 weeks) with varied styles of tripthe within that (city/more outdoorsy) & would be super interested to know what your packing list would be for a scenario like this!

    1. That would definitely take a little more planning. I think the key here would be to pack multi functional clothes and ones that layer well together. Comfort is always king! Might have to do a separate post on this…

  2. Really enjoyed reading this post, Jessica. Thanks for sharing the links showing where we could make these purchases. Love your hassle free and simple travel advice. X

  3. Love packing lists and generally capsule wardrobes. Recently I’ve been challenging myself to pack lighter when going away with the kids and really assessing what is actually essential. It’s made life so much easier and less stressful and makes packing everything around their 4×4 of a pram much more doable. Hope you had a fantastic holiday xx
